The Day Planner

How to add a new appointment.

Select an area of time in the '3. Appointments' area. Right click this area and select the 'New Appointment' menu item, or if you have roles defined you have the option of selecting the 'New Simple Appointment' menu item.

How to add a new todo.

Right click the '5. Tasks' area and select the 'New Todo' menu item. The new task dialog will appear with the date and todo option set. Everything in this dialog is optional but it offers the most control over defining your task.

-or-

Right click the '5. Tasks' area and select the 'New Simple Todo' menu item. The 'New Simple Todo' menu will only appear if you have defined roles in the principles window. A simple task will skip the new task dialog and instead make a new todo with the selected role for the selected day.

How to change the estimate on a todo.

Double click the 'Scheduling' column area of the todo that you wish you change.

-or-

For more scheduling options, right click the item and select 'Properties' and select the 'Scheduling' icon in the navigation list to display the scheduling page. Here you will be given additional options besides the just the estimate.

Estimated Duration combo box:

This will set the estimated duration of the todo. This is required for the auto scheduler.

This Task may be Split check box:

You may set if this todo may be split apart, that is if it can be started and stopped. Going to the gym would be hard to split apart since you'd lose the time it takes to get there, get dressed, etc. However some items such as responding E-mails work well as splittable todos since they can be done through out the day when you have a little bit of time before an appointment but not enough time for something else. These can be used to "fill" your time. Good tasks that can be split apart are tasks which are in reality many little tasks or tasks that require little concentration.

Schedule Before/After time controls:

You may set constraints of when a task should be accomplished. For example if you have to get to the post office before 6 PM because that's when they close you can set the 'Schedule Before' constraint or if you have to call someone after 4 PM you can use the 'Schedule After' constraint. The auto scheduler will take these into account while auto scheduling your list. If a conflict occurs you will see a warning icon on the '4. Day Summary' control as well as in the '3. Appointments' area.

How to begin timing a task.

Right click the task and select the Timer -> Start menu item. This will bring up the timer dialog. The task is now being timed and you will begin to see the task drawn in as a task time cell during the duration of the timing.
